Ace day at Sunny Stand

After months of dismal wet weather it was a day for shorts and shirt sleeves at Stand Golf Club bathed in warm sunshine and providing slick greens and a scenic and challenging course for a full field of smiling players.

The day provided some hot scoring in all sections led by Steve Ingram and his superb Blackley colleague Dan Williams who posted 49 points to romp home in the Pro Am section from Rob Braithwaite and his Harwood partner Graham Martin 46 with Alistair Waddell (Chorlton) and Charles Herbert (Alderley Edge) who won a cpo for the second competition running on 45 from Jamie Howarth (Davenport) and John Nightingale (Shaw Hill).

In the Pro individual section Jamie Howarth and Rob Braithwaite shared top spot with 42 and next in with 41 were Alex Prichard (Poulton ParK) and Andy Palmer (Chorley).

The good scoring was kept up in the Am Am section by Mobi Rawthore (Sale) and Neil Griffiths (Reddish Vale) 46, from Stamford’s dynamic duo of Darren Clarke and Steve Milligan 45 and Darron Tickle and Mike Smith (Blackley) who won a cpo on 42.

Steve Ingham completed a good day for himself by winning the Nearest the Pin Prize.

There were also celebrations for Alex Pritchard as his deadly pitching wedge from the fourth tee saw him get his fourth career ace on the 126-yard hole.

His previous aces were at Bury, Upton by Chester and Pryors Hayes.

There was another remarkable shot of the day from the greenside bunker on the 18^th hole by Adam Wells (Fairfield) as his short recovery chip from the sand travelled 150 yards back down the fairway.

A lovely day to sit out on the balcony overlooking the 18^th green and enjoy the excellent après golf food provided by the friendly Stand staff and avoid an approach shot to the green which struck the clubhouse wall behind the balcony!
