John and Gizmo
John Wall, Steve Bell and Paul Taylor were enjoying their round at Reddish Vale Golf Club and putting out on the 16th green adjoining the River Tame when they heard a dog yapping.
John took up the story: “We were listening to the yapping dog when I heard a splash.
“When I got to edge of the green by the river the dog ‘Gizmo’ was clinging to the end of a fallen tree near the middle of the river.
“I tried to ease myself down but thought that it would take too long so I jumped in, grabbed him and passed him up to my playing partners.
“His owner appeared so I told him to meet us at the club to collect Gizmo and apart from wet clothing and soaking, stinking shoes all was ok.
“Of course we finished our round, using my belt as a lead for Gizmo, and I birdied the next two holes!”
