High Legh Park 16th October 2024

Dave keeps up his hot form on a day of wet drama

The return of MDGA President Ian Brooks from his sunshine holiday in Tenerife brought a grim day of weather plagued by plenty of rain to High Legh Park.

Fortunately the excellent drainage of the course saw some good early scores posted.

Then the rainfall increased and flooded many greens making the competition scores over the first nine holes be the deciding factor on the day.

Dukinfield professional Dave ‘Boy’ Green has been in good form in recent weeks and his regular partner Paul Crisp (Ashton-on-Mersey)was full of admiration for David who played some of the best golf he had ever seen him play for a nine-under par score of 45 and Paul helped him to reach 47 in the pro am for a leading score.

But on completion of their round due to water flooding the greens it was decided to make the competition scores on the first nine holes count.

Fortunately and deservedly it did not affect the result as David was the top individual pro with 23 from Alistair Waddell (Chorlton) 22 and Jamie Howarth (Davenport) 21.

Dave made it a double in the Pro Am section as he and Paul Crisp posted 26 to lead in from Jack Wiggans and Graham Moores (Chorley) who won a cpo on 23 from Josh Crumplin (Disley) and Luke Yardley (Stockport with Jamie Howarth and John Nightingale (Shaw Hill) also on 23.

The winners of the Am Am section in a close contest were John Kilner (Hart Common) and Tom Baker Junior (Hart Common) who won a cpo on 23 from Danny Beeley and Clint Davey (Ellesmere).

Next in were Alliance legend Chris Lee (Mellor) and Steve Heywood (Manchester) who won a cpo on 22 from sponsor Neil McGuinness and Willie Henderson (Disley).

The nearest the pin prize was won by Jack Wiggans (Chorley) and there was also thanks to Bramall Park pro Craig Daggitt for adding £200 to take the Alliance collection for The Christie Hospital past the £3,000 mark.

Alliance President Ian Brooks thanked all of the players and staff at High Legh Park for their patience and fortitude in some difficult playing conditions.
