Hard work paying off for Phillip
Phillip Archer has been one of the top playing professionals in the North West for many years. Warrington-based Phil, a professional at Poulton Park GC, has played on top golf tours throughout the world and enjoyed his experiences and successes and most recently he has been playing on the PGA Legends tour with some big names.
Phillip has never forgotten his golfing roots and has also been a very successful regular for many years on the Manchester and District Golf Alliance.
He reflects on his golf in the past year and how he is working hard to get back to his best. Phillip said:
“2024 was an Ok year but in full reflection felt like a step backwards from the two previous years.
My game wasn’t as consistent and I only ended up finishing top 20 from some good finishes seventh, third and second in some of the events later in the year.
This was down to working a bit harder, as I felt I got a little complacent at the start of the year, thinking it would just happen.
My preparation for 2025 is due to analysing 2024 fully as I dropped too many shots in the last five holes on Sundays in far too many tournaments.
This I feel was down to a lack of physical and mental strength.
I therefore have concentrated on fitness over the last two months to get stronger and lose some weight.
I’ve been in the Gym three times a week, with a proper weights program and cardio program, and have been given a good plan from my sponsor Dave Fleming, who is well into his fitness.
’ve managed to shed two stones and add some muscle for which I feel much better.
Whether this helps my game we will see, but I definitely feel better mentally knowing I’ve done the work.
In my first event back on The Legends Tour in Marbella my game felt great and if the putter had behaved a little more it would have been a great week, finishing 22nd didn’t really reflect my play.
We have a break now before the next event in Barbados, so it’s great to get out and have a few games in The Manchester Aliiance, nice seeing all the guys each week.
Alex Pritchard (head pro Poulton Park GC) and myself are having some competitive games against each other each week.
I’m practising hard at Poulton Park in the trackman studios we have there and the short game area is great now the weather is improving.
I feel this year I’m giving myself every opportunity to have a great year, and feel so much better for the weight loss and better strength. Fingers crossed watch this space!
Also another thing we’re doing this year is starting our own clothing range. Myself and Alex are both wearing it in the attached pictures.
It’s called Fred Karlsson clothing and myself, Alex and Rob Howarth are starting it up hopefully from the end of Apri.
