Bolton legend honoured with new role
Bolton golfing legend Ged Gaffey, has fulfilled many top positions in golf over the years. He has enjoyed playing golf all over the world and has made many friends along the way.
Ged is delighted with his latest appointment to be the Captain of the historic Old Manchester Golf Club for 2025.
Ged (Pictured) said:
“The Old Manchester Golf Club, which has is the second oldest Golf Club in England and was instituted in 1818 although evidence exists of some informal golf activity before that date on Kersal Moor, Salford until 1882 when the club was re-established in Broughton Park until 1904 before moving to Vine Street.
In 1960 Vine Street became untenable but the Club did not cease to exist and continues to thrive without a course as members continue to find satisfaction in its long and distinguished past and look forward to a successful future.
In 2018 Old Manchester celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Club.
I am honoured to be Captain of the Old Manchester Golf Club for 2025,
I have previously been Captain of Bolton Old Links Golf Club and a past Captain of the Manchester and District Golf Alliance as well as an active member of Manchester and District Golf Captains.
I joined the Bolton Old Links GC in 1981 and have enjoyed playing golf all over the world with five holes in one and I am currently a member of Bolton Golf Club.
I'm looking forward to making more friendships through golf.
Our fixtures for 2025: Spring meeting at Worsley Marriott Golf Club, Summer meeting at Bramall Park Golf Club, Autumn meeting at Withington Golf Club,
Broadbent pairs at the Stockport Golf Club.”
