The Manchester and District Golf Alliance moved into its second century of ‘Friendship Through Golf’ at the historic Chorley Golf Club.
The hosts gave their traditional warm and friendly welcome backed by a well-conditioned course enjoyed by the players in a close competition in some mixed weather.
The new Alliance Captain Alistair Holloway (Denton Golf Club) (Pictured with MDGA President Ian Brooks) and his excellent partner Anthony Kenny (Prestwich GC) looked like making an early impression to post 41 points in the Am Am section only to be pipped at the post from top spot by Tony Lomas and John Dempsey (Turton GC) on a cpo.
Just a point behind the top two were Greg Norbury and Phil Dearden (Flixton GC) who won a cpo from John Harrop and Ben Hodson (Dukinfield) and Tony Smith and Garry Foster (Stamford).
Local stars and Alliance legends Alan Crompton (Haigh Hall) (pictured) 41 and Craig Corrigan 39 led in the individual pro section from new young star Ryan Owen (Styal) on 38.
Sean Owen (Bolton Old Links) and Paul Greenhalgh (Turton) were clear winners in the Pro Am section with 45, two more than Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Mark Pasquill (Leigh) who won a cpo from Alan Crompton and John Egan (Haigh Hall).
The final prize for Nearest the Pin was won by Anthony Kenny.
Alliance President Ian Brooks welcomed Alistair Holloway into his role as Alliance Captain and gave deserving thanks to all at Chorley GC, his willing helper Jim Cunliffe and all of the players for a pleasing start to a busy season ahead.
