Houghwood win close encounter at new venue

Sponsored by Williams BMW

Lowes Park has hosted the finals day for many years with great success but this year the final was switched to Leyland GC with their excellent course withstanding some heavy downpours to provide a gripping final between Houghwood and Warrington whose teams had battled through several rounds to get there and had to adapt to several local rules on the day due to the weather affecting playing conditions.

The Alliance officials were delighted with the support and hospitality they got on the course and the excellent Leyland clubhouse.

Houghwood won the first two matches with George Strettle 6/4 and George Unsworth 4/2.
Then Warrington showed their fighting spirit as they drew level with wins for Ollie Chester two up and Jamie Pilkington one up.
Then it went to the final green with Megan Burgess (Warrington) and Alfie Mallalieu (Houghwood) neck and neck.
Alfie was the winner as Megan just missed out on a vital putt and Houghwood took the trophy presented by the Leyland Captain.
Both teams conducted themselves immaculately throughout the day both on and off the course to show the superb quality of the junior golf game in the region.

Alliance President Ian Brooks gave deserving thanks to all of their players, parents and club officials and all at Leyland Golf Club for their support on the day.

He gave a special mention to Williams BMW who have given great support to the competition for the best part of 20 years.
