A full field enjoyed a Denton course in excellent condition, despite some heavy overnight rain, backed by top class coubhouse service.
The return of MDGA techo wizard Jim Cunliffe with his new laptop saw the day go as smooth as silk until Alliance Captain Alistair Holloway completed his round at his home club.
Shortly afterwards the fire alarms went off and everyone was removed from the clubhouse as the fire brigade arrived to investigate the problem.
Fortunately all of the players had returned and submitted their scores allowing Jim and President Ian Brooks to sort out the leaders in each of the sections.
The fire brigade completed its inspection with the problem resolved reasonably quickly.
The scores were well down from last week’s huge returns at Warrington but there were some familiar names at the top of the leaderboard.
The top individual pro was OoM leader Josh Crumplin (Disley) 41 from Jamie Howarth (Davenport) 40 and Phil Archer (Poulton Park) 38.
Josh made it a double as he and his regular partner Chris Jackson (Tytherington) topped the Pro Am section with 47 from Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Mark Pasquill (Leigh) and Jamie Howarth and John Nightingale (Shaw Hill) both 45.
Tom and Elliott Kirton (Prestbury) led in the Am Am section with 45 from Stamford’s Andy Angelone and Jason Anderson who won a cpo on 43 from Dave Smith (Hart Common) and Danny Beeley (Westhoughton) with Jamie Howarth winning the Nearest the Pin prize.
Alliance President Ian Brooks gave deserved thanks to all at Denton for handling the emergency with cool efficiency and to all of the players for their response to a difficult situation.
