New Alliance record set at misty Whitefield
Whitefield Golf Club provided a super course and excellent support and hospitality which was reflected by some high scoring in all sections.
Alliance President Ian Brooks is sure that the combined scores for the Pro Am and Am Am sections on the day were the highest in the 100 years of Manchester Alliance golf.
Phil Archer (Poulton Park) has been enjoying a great season on the PGA Legends Tour and other competitions and he kept this up with his regular partner Mark Pasquill (Leigh GC) as they set a hot early pace posting 49 points in the Pro Am section.
It was only threatened by the usual sting in the tail from Davenport’s Jamie Howarth and Paul Robinson with 48 two more than Harry Doyle (New Mills) and Kris Gittings (Romiley.
Jamie pipped Phil in the Individual pro section with 44, adding more points to his OoM tally, putting him one clear of Phil who had 43 alongside his Poulton Park colleague Alex Pritchard and in-form Josh Crumplin (Disley).
The new Alliance record of 49 points in top spot in both divisions was set by last year’s MDGA Captain Don Milligan and his Ashton-on-Mersey colleague Mark Sellers in the Am Am section.
They finished six clear of Richard Margrave (Stamford) and Paul Traynor (Saddleworth) with Ian Fearns (Stamford) and Paul Ralph (Hazel Grove) next in after winning a cpo on 42.
The Nearest the pin winner was Cheadle pro Tom Clancy and Chorley’s Graham Moores was again a bobby dazzler in his stunning shirt.
