Pike Fold assistant pro makes a big move

Pike Fold Golf Club assistant professional Nicole Womack (pictured) is in her final year of PGA qualification and she is delighted to have been appointed as the assistant professional at Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

Nicole outlined her career path in golf: “I started playing golf from the age of six after I was introduced to the game through my dad.

“I started having weekly lessons from a PGA Pro at Castle Hawk Golf Club, this lasted a few years until I joined Pike Fold Golf Club at the age of 11.

I continued to have lessons from the assistant professional at Pike Fold.

I also began to play in the Junior Competitions alongside my brother Ryan. I was appointed to the role of Junior Captain in 2018 (first girl junior captain of Pike Fold) and meanwhile I joined Lancashire girls and played in many of their competitions and represented Lancashire in county matches for a few years.

Then one day I was asked by the head professional at Pike Fold Golf Club to work alongside him in the shop. I began by working a few days a week until I eventually made the decision to start my PGA qualification where I am now currently in my final year.

I have now recently been appointed assistant professional at The Royal Birkdale Golf Club after applying for the job which I saw advertised through the PGA.

I’d like to say a big thank you to Pike Fold professional Grant Hamerton. I’m very thankful to him for giving me the opportunity to work alongside him at Pike Fold gaining experience and knowledge along the way and giving me the pathway to a career at Royal Birkdale. I appreciate everything he has done for me over the years at Pike Fold.

I’d also like to say a huge thank you to my mum Emma, dad Tony, and brother Ryan and the rest of my family and friends for all the support with my golf career from the very beginning and also the Head professional at Royal Birkdale, Gregg Pettersen, for giving me this amazing opportunity.

I feel very overwhelmed with my new position at Royal Birkdale. I’m very excited and eager to start with this new adventure. I am looking forward to joining the Birkdale team and being part of this prestigious club.

My aim is to continue focusing on my PGA qualification and hopefully qualify as a PGA pro.

As long term plans go, I’m excited to see where this opportunity at Royal Birkdale is going to take me, developing my skills and overcoming new challenges.”
