Wonderful Warrington sets up a great day of golf
Sponsored by Anton Johnson Hairdressing (Centre, picture 1)
Warrington Golf Club is one of the most popular venues on the MDGA Winter Series and has hosted many county, regional and national competitions over the years.
There was a full field of players in action who enjoyed a course in terrific condition and produced a string of top scores in all sections on a very enjoyable day for all both on and off the course.
With MDGA techo wizard Jim Cunliffe unavailable Brenda Brooks deputised in impeccable manner to keep husband Ian in full working order in a long and busy day.
Warrington’s legendary member and top hairdresser Anton Johnson was again the sponsor for the competition and it was good to see him partnering long-time Alliance legend Graham Cox as his professional partner.
The day was set up for some top scoring by first-out Am Am’s dynamic duo of Charles Herbert (Alderley Edge) and Ross Birch (Conway) who posted a near record Alliance score of 52 points.
It set the tone for what may possibly be an Alliance record for the aggregate scores in each section.
Next in with a very creditable 47 were Paul Traynor (Saddleworth) and Richard Margrave (Stamford) one clear of Gary Myerscough and Anthony Lomax (Turton)
It was very congested in the professional section with the top individual prizes shared by Jamie Howarth (Davenport) and Phil Kelly 43 from Alan Crompton (Haigh Hall), Craig Corrigan, Ryan O'Neil and Josh Crumplin, all 42.
The pro am winners were Alan Crompton and John Egan (Haigh Hall) (picture 2) 47 and a big cpo on 46 saw Harry Doyle (New Mills) and Steve Pinnington (Tytherington) coming in ahead of Ryan O’Neil and Steve ‘Majestic’Moores (Saddleworth), Phil Kelly and Martin Dwyer (Stamford) and Josh Crumplin and Tom Kirton (Prestbury).
The Nearest the Pin prize again went to Styal taken by Lee Norcross
