MDGA Winter Series at Styal GC sponsored by Jonathan Gallagher of Wilson Staff

Kris sets the standard with the Alliance back in action at sunny Styal

The Manchester and District Golf Alliance opened its competitive Centenary season at sunny Styal with the club presenting a mature and challenging course enjoyed by all of the players.

The MDGA got its Centenary season off to a flying start at Styal Golf Club, who as usual gave all of the players and officials a typical warm and friendly welcome.

The early pace was set by former MDGA Captain Kris Andrews (Ashton-on-Mersey) 38 individual and 42 pro am with club colleague Josh Corrigan.

Kris held on to the individual lead for the rest of the day with the main challenge coming at the end from Ian Ridgway (Disley) 37, with Mike Bedford (Bramall Park) and Scott Howarth (Davenport) level on 36.

Kris and Josh had to give way in the pro am section to Stand’s hot duo of Mark Hancock and Gareth Mawdsley 44 and Ian Ridgway and Disley partner Gary Spencer 43 and drawing level with Kris and Josh were Scott Howarth and Bradley Cooke (Davenport).

Top of the Am Am section were home pair Hilton Alexander and Rick Johnson 43 from Mobi Rawthore (Sale) and James Maxwell (Knutsford) 41 and Tony Palmer (Chorley) and Andy Hannay (Stamford) 39.

Hilton also took the nearest the pin prize.

The main sponsor for the day was Jonathan Gallagher (Wilson Staff) and Alliance President Ian Brooks thanked all at Styal for their help and the players for their support.
