The sun shines on the stars at Stand
The sun shone wall to wall on a glorious day for golf at the excellently conditioned Stand GC and Alliance legend Phil Archer (Poulton Park) revelled in the conditions with a terrific double.
In a hotly contested individual pro competition Phil posted an impressive seven-under-par 43 points. But it was only just enough to edge out current O-o-M champion Jamie Howarth by a point. Hot on Jamie’s heels with 41 were Ian Ridgway (Disley) and Rob Braithwaite (Scottsdale Golf).
Phil’s partner Dave Morris (Birchwood) gave him excellent support in a thrilling race for top spot in the Pro Am section. They posted 46 points to win a cpo from Josh Crumplin (Disley) and Chris Jackson (Tytherington) and Elliot Tickle (North Manchester) and Rick Valentine (Blackley).
Stand duo Tom Farley and Norman Haslam used their local knowledge to good effect to top the Am Am section with 42, closely followed by Chris Hinton and James Munnery (Hale) 41 and Alliance regulars Richard Margrave (Stamford) and Paul Traynor (Saddleworth) winning a card play off on 40.
The nearest the pin prize went to Alastair Pegler (Pleasington).
Alliance President Ian Brooks thanked all of the staff and members at Stand for their friendly and helpful support and also Alliance Captain Grant Hamerton for his great weather control since the Winter series resumed action three weeks ago.
