Great contest at superb Marriott
THE Manchester Alliance returned to full competitive action in great style at Marriott Worsley Park GC who presented an excellent course in dry but very cool conditions.
The new Alliance website and booking system had worked well and a full field of professionals and amateurs were able to enjoy some excellent golf with a welcome smile on their faces with Footjoy’s Denton, Lancashire and England legend Bob Bardsley as the competition sponsor.
Due to Covid restrictions off-course hospitality and presentations were unable to take place with golf taking centre-stage but it did not retract from the pleasure of all players and organisers.
The top professional was Davenport’s Scott Howarth with 40 points from new Chorley professional Andy Palmer 39 and Phil Archer (Poulton Park) 38.
Scott made it a double as his partner Peter Botterman (Stockport) lifted them into the pro am slot with 43 points, one more than Andy Palmer and Paul Barlow (Stamford), Tom and Mike Fenton (Styal) and Phil Archer and Mark Pasquill (Leigh).
It was a family affair in the Am Am section with Blackley’s Elliott and Darron Tickle first past the post with 43 points, one more than John Aikenhead and Mark Gauchi (Ashton-on-Mersey) and Alan Leigh (Prestwich) and Ged Burke (Whitefield).
The nearest the pin prize went to Ellesmere’s Juan Manzano and another highlight was home pro and true Alliance legend David Screeton holing a fantastic 45-footer on the 18th green.
Alliance President Ian Brooks was delighted with the return to action complimenting all of the players and Marriott Worsley Park for their impeccable support.
