Denton stars complete 100,000 challenge

BOB Bardsley is a true legend of Denton, Lancashire and England golf and still after many years of outstanding success plays off a scratch handicap.
Now Bob, together with his daughter Alyx, (both pictured) is delighted to have accomplished another great challenge to raise funds for the Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind Charity.
Bob reports on their journey: “Alyx and I set off at 3am to complete the 100,000 step challenge by walking from Denton Golf Club to Southport – a total distance of 51 miles.
“The journey was fairly simple - straight down Hyde Road through Manchester City Centre picking up the East Lancs Road and continuing along it for approximately half the journey (Wow and I thought that it was a long road in the car!):
“We then turned right at St Helens, along the Rainford bypass, through Ormskirk and on to Southport .
“There were a few pit stops along the way and of course I was appreciative of the support of my Footjoy Golf Shoes (plus plenty of plasters and a can of freeze spray.)
“We were fortunate to have the best weather conditions of the week and we completed the challenge just before 8pm and after a couple of days are now back to full fitness.
“At the moment we have raised around £2,500 with money still coming in and we would like to thank everyone who has donated to this fantastic local charity.”
