Andy Palmer relishing new role at his beloved club

ANDY Palmer has been connected to Chorley Golf throughout his fine career in golf and he is delighted to have been appointed as the new club professional.
Andy outlined his impressive career in golf: “I first got into golf when my mum became the stewardess at Chorley Golf Club; it was my 13th birthday, we moved into the golf club and the golf course became my new back garden.
“From there my love for the game really took off which led to me playing for the Chorley Golf Club team as well as for Lancashire as a junior which set my career path in the direction of golf.
“I started my golf education at Myerscough College completing my National Diploma in golf studies, before progressing onto to the University of Central Lancashire to undertake a BA honours degree in Golf Management.
“Following my graduation I turned Professional in 2012 and started to focus solely on playing and perfecting my game, starting on the Europro Tour and playing in the regional PGA events.
“I completed my PGA degree in 2017 whilst continuing to play regionally and building a great client base coaching. I’ve also worked closely with Andy Leigh and the Golf Foundation which I’m really passionate about for the junior academies.
“My career highlights in playing has definitely been winning Lancashire Strokeplay, Lancashire Matchplay, North Region Championship and runner up in Regional Order of Merit 2019 and 2020 earning my qualification to the PGA Playoffs.
“In 2020 I was also delighted to earn a spot on European Tour at the Celtic Classic and also Challenge tour at the Northern Ireland open.
“I have also had plenty of success in the Manchester and District Golf Alliance in which I have played regularly for several years.
“Professionally, to become the Head Professional at Chorley is the pinnacle of my achievements so far. To come full circle and become the Head Pro at my home club and to have the support of the members I’ve built friendships with is a real honour for me.
“I’m so grateful for everyone who’s helped me in my career to date of which there are so many! Especially my parents, wife and family who’ve always pushed me and been behind me 100 per cent.
“Also Rick Daniels of Myerscough and Paul Barlow who’ve both been continued mentors and close friends and Chorley Golf Club board and members who’ve supported me in all my playing achievements over the years to now in becoming their Head Professional.
“I have just completed a full refurbishment of the Pro Shop and Swing room which I can’t wait to share in the upcoming season. “I’m really passionate about delivering a great customer journey to our members and visitors so this is at the forefront of my visions for my role at Chorley and how I want to deliver the services and products through the pro shop.
“I intend to carry on playing in the regional and National PGA events and hopefully continue the success I’ve had over the last few years.
“I can’t wait to get out playing too like everyone else.”
