Sponsored by Chris Bibby, Professional Whitefield Golf Club
There was another full attendance at Whitefield Golf Club for the latest competition, which proved to be the last one one prior to the four-week lockdown bringing the first half of the winter season to a premature halt much to the disappointment of players and organisers.
The competition was a Team of Four Stableford, always very popular and with a reserve list of teams, with the players enjoying the challenges of a tricky Whitefield course which was in good condition considering the heavy rain over the previous week.
Club officials, staff and members gave great support to the competition, sponsored by club PGA professional Chris Bibby.
Local knowledge came to the fore as the team led by Chris consisting of Whitefield Captain Martin Slukis, Johnny Pollock and Adrian Barr shared top spot on 85 points with the serial winners of Dave Smith Professional (Swinton Park) , Jimmy O’Reilly (Ellesmere) , Ged Burke and Alan Leigh (Prestwich).
Hot on their heels with 84 points were the Knutsford fab four of Tim Maxwell, Joe Stanley, Nigel Eckersley and Jeremy Lawton who won a card play off from the team consisting of three players from Leigh, Mark Pasquill, Andy Shaw and Shaun Kenworthy, led by Poulton Park's professional Phil Archer.
The outstanding round of the day came from Grant Hamerton (pictured above), the PGA pro at nearby Pike Fold GC, who showed his European Tour experience with a superb round of 42 points, six-under-par, to finish two clear of another former Tour star Phil Archer (Poulton Park), with Tim Maxwell and Chorley’s Andy Palmer next in with 38 points.
The nearest the pin prize was won by Neil O’Brien of Disley GC.
