The new winter season opened at Romiley Golf Club, who provided a course in excellent condition for the players.
We had to change the format to timed starts due to Covid regulations and had great support from the staff at Romiley Golf Club.
It was a day with two halves of weather with a fine sunny morning followed by a dismal wet afternoon and the star of the day was Davenport professional Jamie Howarth who posted 38 points to win the individual prize ahead of Dave Smith (Swinton Park) 36 and Scott Jackson (Disley) 35.
Jamie then doubled up as he and his Mellor and Townscliffe partner Chris Alexander took top spot in the pro am section with 41 points ahead of Scott Jackson and Steve Misell (Disley) 40 and reigning Alliance Order-of-Merit champion Phil Archer who partnered his Poulton Park colleague Mark Pasquil to win a cpo on 39 from Dave Smith and Matt Murray (Marriott Worsley Park).
The top score of the day came in the Am Am section came from Don Milligan (Ashton-on-Mersey) and Andy Hall (Styal) with 43 points taking them clear of Paul Traynor and Richard Margrave (Stamford) 42 and Steve Finan and Martin Dwyer (Stamford) 41.
It was the first competition for new Alliance Captain Gary Brown (Glossop) who enjoyed playing his round with Phil Archer.
