Chris enjoys his role as Alliance Captain

CHRIS Lee, a legend at Mellor and Townscliffe Golf Club has enjoyed a great start is his role as the Captain of the Manchester and District Golf Alliance

Chris outlined his term in office to date:

“The Alliance is now halfway through the season and it is time to reflect on some of the highlights as Captain of the MDGA that I have experienced.

Firstly I would like to thank everyone for their congratulations on my appointment and the best wishes they have expressed to me for my year in tenure so far - everyone’s best wishes are much appreciated.

During the first half of the season we have been blessed with weather unparalleled in my time with the Alliance - every venue has been rain free and every event has gone without hitch - may it continue in the New Year!

It’s been a real pleasure meeting the dignitaries of the Alliance and the clubs and enjoying their company (as well as my playing partners of course) on the courses we have played - all which have been excellently prepared in advance of our visit.

The National Alliance was held this year at Oakmere GC, Nottinghamshire and it was a privilege to represent the MDGA and spend time playing with pro Chris Bibby (Bury GC). Fantastic company / great room-mate and seriously good golfer!

Unfortunately we didn’t win but nevertheless a great time was had by all.

It goes without saying that the committee have continued to do a sterling job in selecting venues , organising the knockouts and the Wednesday competitions - huge thanks must go to Ian Brooks (President) Ian Hales (Secretary) and Jim Cunliffe (Comps and IT guru) for their dedication to the organisation. I must also not forget the publicist and camera man Geoff Garnett for his continued Alliance reviews and articles in the local North West press! Without these people the MDGA would not be as we know it - the best golf association in the country!

I cannot wait for the second half of the season to begin and with luck it will be blessed with good weather when the MDGA tour restarts along with the draws for the team KOs.

All that remains is to wish everyone associated with the Manchester Alliance a very Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!"
