Andy finds a superb partner at tough Houghwood
Sponsored by Paul Traynor of Medlock Estates
HOUGHWOOD Golf Club is a relative newcomer to the local golf scene since it opened 25 years ago.
Commanding superb views across the local landscape to the Welsh Hills and providing a tough and physical challenge backed by magnificent clubhouse facilities it was enjoyed by another full Alliance field with many finding points hard to come by.
Alliance Captain Chris ‘Cloudy’ Lee (Mellor and Townscliffe GC) maintained his rain free reputation and will be nervously checking the weather forecasts for the coming week before the first half of the winter season ends at Mottram Hall to see if he can set a new Alliance record.
Chorley professional Andy Palmer made the short trip to Houghwood and teamed-up with Paul Barlow (Stamford) to top the pro am section with 43 points as Paul added nine points to Andy’s individual 34.
Next in on 42 were Blackley’s Steve Ingham and Mike Morgan and level on 41 were Craig Corrigan and Mark Riley (Leigh), Dave Green (Dukinfield) and his ever-reliable partner Paul Crisp (Ashton-on-Mersey) and Davenport duo Jamie Howarth and Paul Robinson.
Jamie Howarth added to his impressive professional Order of Merit rankings as he was the top individual pro with 39 from Tim Maxwell (Knutsford) 37 and Craig Corrigan 36.
The am am section was led in by Didsley’s Steve Kewley and Garry Bingham with 43 one more than Flixton’s Bob Barrow and Dave Chesworth who won a cpo from Davyhulme Park’s Sam Garnett and Andy Parish.
The Nearest The Pin prize was won by Jack Wiggans (Chorley) providing some consolation to losing out in the individual pro section to his boss Andy Palmer.
