A Message From Our President ...

Sadly another Alliance Season, albeit a short one has come to an end. Only 15 of the 25 scheduled events were able to take place, with none of the Inter Club Knockouts being possible during 2020.

Covid restrictions meant that our traditional shotgun starts had to be abandoned in favour of timed starts. Despite this, most of the events were full, and in fact, this enabled more players to play in the events. Maybe this could be the format for the future?

I would like to thank all of the Professionals and Amateurs alike from the 109 member clubs within the MDGA who have supported us during these difficult times.

I would also like to express my appreciation to all of the member clubs who have kindly hosted our events and a huge thank you to all of our sponsors who have remained loyal to us during the pandemic.

As you know, this season we have introduced a new website which has provided us with the facility to enable on-line booking for our Winter Competitions. Thanks for this must go to Darren Wood of Club Systems who has assisted our secretary Ian Hales and Jim Cunliffe in setting it up.

We are hoping that during the summer months we can arrange the John Dowd Memorial Trophy, a Charity Pro/Am, Am/Am event. Hopefully this will be at Flixton Goif Club were John was a member for many years. Details will appear on the website.

My final thank yous go to two people who without their dedication the alliance would not exist. I am referring to Ian Hales, our Secretary/Treasurer and his assistant Jim Cunliffe. Also, a big thank you to our press officer, Geoff Garnett, who regularly promotes the work of the Alliance throughout the northwest.

We will continue to work tirelessly to implement new ideas with the aim of making the Alliance bigger and better. 2024 will be our Centenary Year and we are hoping to make the occasion something special.

Have a good golfing summer and keep safe.

Ian E Brooks - MDGA President.
